Melody Weintraub

 

Melody Weintraub has worked as a professional artist for over 30 years. Her commissioned work is mainly in watercolor, but she works in all painting media. She taught watercolor and conducted workshops in community classes both through the University of Memphis and Memphis College of Art. She produced a watercolor video series, “Watercolor Painting Made Easy,” and is the author/illustrator of a children’s book, “The Little Bluebird,” published in 2001. She has exhibited in several shows throughout the country and more recently exhibited at Charlotte Ehinger-Schwartz 1876, 526 South Main in Memphis and in New York to benefit internationally recognized artist Faith Ringgold’s foundation, “Anyone Can Fly.” Weintraub is a member of The Memphis Germantown Art League and The Portrait Society of America. Currently she is a middle school art and theatre teacher in Memphis. In 2014 she was named, “Tennessee Middle School Art Educator of the Year,” by the Tennessee Art Education Association. She has taught Art Education at The University of Memphis both as an adjunct and full-time instructor. Her work has been characterized as representational, evoking a narrative quality. Other than painting, Weintraub loves spending time with her family at the lake house and she also enjoys acting as a second profession. She can be seen in several television commercials and also appeared as the history teacher in the movie, “The Blind Side.”
